About Donohue Computer Services
This is not some mega-corporation. It's basically just me, Dick Donohue.
I'm the President and the Janitor. I live in Portage, Michigan.
I've been a professional programmer for
27 years; and I've been self-employed for
9 years.
Professional Programming
To me, being a professional programmer means that there are certain obligations that go beyond just getting paid to write programs. A Professional programmer:- Listens carefully
- Writes programs that meet the clients' needs
- Writes programs that are easy for the next programmer to understand and maintain because the most expensive part of the program is usually the developers' time.
- Understands that the "next programmer" may not be "me"
- Truly puts the client's best interests first
- Accepts criticism gracefully
- Takes personal responsibility for keeping technical skills up-to-date
- Maintains skills on more than one platform (in my case, iSeries, PC, and the web) and can accurately determine the platform(s) to which an application is best suited
- Strives to maintain a high level of technical skills
- Is always learning, and is always sharing what is learned
- Is always honest. Admits when wrong. Admits when he doesn't know.
- Is creative.
